NEWPORT BEACH – It seems fitting that World Golf Hall of Famer Mark O’Meara, 62, made a triumphal return to Orange County this week after becoming the fourth-oldest champion in the 39-year history of PGA Tour Champions this past Sunday in Tucson.
But what a long, strange, exhausting trip it was for O’Meara to get here to compete in the rebranded Hoag Classic, which opens Friday at Newport Beach Country Club.
