Cowboy Camp — it brings dreams of cattle drives, bull riding, steer wrestling, calf roping, and sitting around a campfire in the evening telling stories.

Only in this case, it was on a relatively small scale: two miniature horses, four cowboys, 20 kids and a Miss Rodeo California.

“Our daughter loves coming here every summer,” said Michelle Ligao of San Clemente, mother of Nina Huynh, 8. “The whole staff at the Shea Center is just wonderful with the kids and the horses.”

Nina received help in roping from Gilbert Aguirre, executive vice president of ranch operations at Rancho Mission Viejo and president of the Rancho Mission Viejo Rodeo, which takes place Aug. 24 and 25.
