A Newport Coast couple recently donated $1 million to Hoag Memorial Hospital Presbyterian in Newport Beach, just one donation of many contributions from the family for more than 20 years, according to hospital officials Thursday.

The most recent donation will be split between three funds: the Mohindar & Harriet Sandhu Kidney Cancer Research Fund, Mohindar & Harriet Sandhu Memory & Cognitive Disorders Excellence Fund and the Mohindar & Harriet Sandhu Cardiovascular Innovation Fund in hopes of benefitting treatment and research in kidney cancer, cognitive impairments like Alzheimer’s and heart disease.

“Cancer, cardiovascular diseases and memory and cognitive disorders impact so many in our communities,” said Dr. Flynn Andrizzi, president of the Hoag Hospital Foundation in a statement. “Sandy and Harriet’s gift is going to help Hoag change many lives for the better and for that we are so grateful. Their generosity is truly a testament to their dedication to helping others.”
