Actor and TV host Alfonso Ribeiro says he took up golf when he was almost 18 years old, which in TV time places his debut on the tee somewhere between the end of “Silver Spoons” and the start of “The Fresh Prince of Bel Air.”

He discovered that he was pretty good at the game.

He’s golfed ever since, with his handicap at 2 at his best, though it’s currently 4. As the global spokesman for the PGA Tour Champions, Ribeiro will be at the Newport Beach Country Club on Wednesday and Thursday for the Hoag Classic, which raises more than $1 million for Hoag Hospital programs and services.
