JSerra Catholic High School in San Juan Capistrano mobilized efforts last week to support those affected by the fires in Los Angeles County. With neighborhoods devastated and countless individuals displaced, the school led a donation drive to assist the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank in its relief efforts. The items were delivered on Jan. 16.
JSerra students, parents and staff gathered essential items at designated drop-off locations across campus. These items were then transported to support community efforts. Officially, JSerra had only one major collection event, alongside a few other events organized by parents and students.
”We had one major one where we contacted various emergency and disaster groups,” said JSerra High School principal Eric Stroupe. “We collected food items, bedclothes, sheets, blankets and toiletries, which we thought were perfect for our community to donate. We just went to the Los Angeles Regional Food Bank this weekend, and we were able to get a truck full of things to bring.”
Stroupe said the JSerra community went well over its goal.
“ We were grabbing lunch after we dropped everything off and trying to put a dollar amount to what we brought, and we figured it had to be somewhere between $10,000 and $20,000 worth of materials that were delivered,” Stroupe said.
With so many coming together to help rebuild, the JSerra community believed it was obligated to support another community in need.
“As a Catholic school, we believe in serving the community in need, and we talk a lot about our student’s character,” Stroupe said.
